Vega Digital Awards Kick Off 2017 Call For Entries

Vega Digital Awards has now launched its 2017 Season 

One of International Awards Associates, Inc. (IAA) awards program – the Vega Digital Awards has now launched its 2017 season call for entries. Vega Digital Awards seeks to recognize and honors the outstanding performance, talent, and effort of the best digital and creative professionals, web developers, web designers and web agencies around the world. Deadline for entry is October 20, 2017.

For this edition of the awards competition, Vega Digital Awards is aiming to improve its program. We target to reach an unprecedented amount of people by introducing new features and categories. This year, a total of 43 new categories has been added for a more comprehensive view of digital creativity. The categories are expanding from 190 to 221 categories. In addition, new subcategories for websites, online videos, and mobile apps will help align with the burst of creativity occurring in advanced technology.

Invite to Work

New features such as the “Invite To Work” function targets to create and increase a positive change in the winners’ network and sales channel by allowing businesses and potential clients to connect with the winner with just a click of a button. A new payment gateway – AliPay has also been added to enhance the payment system. Vega has also established new partnership programs with Adobe. We also collaborating with new media partners such as Muse.World to share great winning artworks.

This year’s competition spans over a period of only three months – from August 1 – October 20, 2017. This  creating a shorter judging process with faster results announcement.

“We’re keeping our promise to the international creative community,” Kenjo Ong, President of IAA Global said. “Our last year’s competition received more than 1,100 entries. We recognized and rewarded tremendous creative work from 30 countries on six continents last year, and 2017 will be even better.”

The Vega Digital Awards are open to all digital media companies and organizations, regardless of size, from sole proprietors on up – and from everywhere on the globe. A small fee is required per entry, and is used to  produce, administer and judge the competition.

Deadline for entry in the 2017 Vega Digital Awards competition is October 20, 2017.

Game Of Thrones Innovative Campaign wins 2016 Vega Digital Awards

The Brief about the innovative campaign

CIVIC challenged us to create an art installation inspired by the HBO series, Game of Thrones. We were asked to convey Arya Stark’s journey in becoming an assassin, starting with her wooden training sword from Season 1 of the series.

Arya’s character and image changed dramatically over the last 5 seasons. Early on, we became interested in the idea of fans changing their own image by their sword training.

In the experience, fans get their profile photographed in a special photo studio, then step on stage to wield a replica of Arya’s training sword. Facing a 10×10 foot projection, fans swing the sword to try and hit targets. Once hit, the targets spill artwork onto the canvas including blades, dragon claws, raven feathers and direwolf fur. As the artwork grows and becomes dense, fans reveal a portrait of themselves, made from the elements of the show.

We created a unique generative art system that translates the physics of sword play into an artful self portrait. To accomplish this, we embedded wooden swords with wireless gyroscope and accelerometer sensors that measure the trajectory and velocity of each swing. As the user slices the on-screen targets, projected artwork spills out based on the swing. Each piece of art rotates, scales and moves in the particular way the user swings their sword. Our custom graphics engine, written in the C++ framework Cinder, blends both 2d and 3d visual elements inspired by Game of Thrones. This 3D world is then masked by the user’s own photo, so that the build up artwork fills in their portrait. The final artwork is then uploaded to a server and available for sharing the moment a user steps off stage.

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is also an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. At first, it is filmed in Belfast and elsewhere in the United Kingdom, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, Spain, and the United States. The series premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and its sixth season ended on June 26, 2016. The series was renewed for a seventh season, which premiered on July 16, 2017, and will conclude with its eighth season in 2018 or 2019.

GlobalTrend Video Awards Call for Entries

International Awards Associates Inc. (IAA) is excited to announce its new awards competition, the 2017 GlobalTrend Video Awards, in recognition of the highest achievements of small and medium-sized online video, film, television and video game production companies, and the creative professionals who are the foundation of future of the industry. The competition is open to the entire video production community, from videographers, directors, writers, composers, editors, visual designers and freelance professionals, to video and audio production companies, game designers/producers, interactive agencies, television/radio stations and nonprofit organizations. 2016 Vega Digital Awards Canopus Winner: Alice Through The Looking Glass “Wonder Mirror” by Part IV, United States

Disney challenged us to find a way to promote “Alice Through The Looking Glass”. We conceived a magical mirror, using cutting edge face-tracking technology to transform anyone into a beloved Alice character. We built custom kiosks that traveled all over the world, including a two-month residency at Disneyland. Users were emailed a photo & Instagram video of their experience.

‘Walt Disney Pictures challenged us to find a way to promote their new film, Alice Through The Looking Glass, at the 2015 D23 Convention in Anaheim, CA.  We had a 40′ x 40′ space, a blank canvas to build our own little corner of Wonderland.

We conceived a magical mirror, using cutting edge face tracking technology to instantly transform anyone into a beloved Alice character.

Our goal was to not just use a simple 2D overlay, but to fully transform the user with both makeup and 3D elements, tracked perfectly in real-time.  And create a cool shareable takeaway from the experience.’

‘We began by designing a whimsical Wonderland inspired space with plush grass, cobblestone pathways, mushrooms, topiaries, and costumes from the film.  To best accommodate the anticipated line for this attraction at D23, we decided to build four of our Wonder Mirror kiosks to minimize wait time.

Each kiosk had a larger mirror with a duplicate feed placed on the outside so friends, family, and passing fans could stand and watch same the magical results from users’ screens inside the kiosks.

With our designs completed, we partnered with Premiere Displays to build and finesse our vision into a reality.  The physical build for Alice began with dozens of artisans hand crafting our little corner of Wonderland.’

‘We quickly learned that this style of a fully immersive face tracking execution hadn’t really been accomplished before. There were several examples of just 2D texture wrapping and 3D paste-on head replacement, but nothing as robust and transformation we were envisioning.

After several months down the rabbit hole in research and development with multiple cameras, trackers, and hardware solutions, we decided to build own custom software to interface with raw facial tracking data.

This custom application allowed us to position our occluded 3D elements and pair them with our texture wrap makeup effects for a true first-to-market experience, and a revolutionary progression of a traditional “photo booth,” now truly allowing real-time augmented transformation.’
